About the EA-18G
The U.S. Navy’s and USMC’s aging EA-6B Prowler has now entered its fourth decade of service, so it was necessary to find a replacement airborne electronic warfare aircraft. The solution was to use the F/A-18 F Super Hornet platform. Dubbed the EA-18G Growler, this two-seater aircraft is fitted with the same AN/ALQ-99 tactical jamming system pods as the Prowler, and is scheduled to be ready for service in 2008. The advanced electronic wizardry of this aircraft detects, identifies, locates and suppresses enemy emitters.

The EA-18G may still be undergoing testing, but Dragon has already introduced a 1/144 scale model version of this capable aircraft. This spectacular model is presented on a section of a carrier flight deck, which includes a miniature towing vehicle and crewmen. This adds up to an instant diorama that is compact in 1/144 scale. Based on Dragon’s accurate and popular F/A-18 Super Hornet molds, this fine new model has brand new ALQ-99 high-band jammer pods, AGM-88 HARM and ALQ-218(v)2 wingtip pods. The first Growler prototype was only handed over in September 2006, but with this replica, modelers are able to field this high-tech aircraft even before the U.S. military does!
