Dragon’s 1/144 Warbird series has been expanded with the addition of another “1+1” set of helicopters. Item No. 4621 contains scale models of an SH-60F and an SH-60B, meaning there are two complete miniature helicopters in the box. The twin-engine multi-mission SH-60 Seahawk is the US Navy’s version of the UH-60 Black Hawk. Outfitted for antisubmarine warfare (ASW) and search and rescue (SAR), the SH-60F Oceanhawk variant is a carrier-based version of the standard SH-60B Seahawk. The SH-60F carries the AQS-13F dipping sonar as well as Mk.46/50 torpedoes and cabin-mounted machine guns.

Dragon’s 1+1 set offers high-definition molding, with astonishing detail present in every aspect. The shape and form of the helicopters has been beautifully captured, and they even have full cabin interior detail. Markings are provided by the well-known company Cartograf, including colorful markings for an SH-60F from Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Fourteen (HS-14) “Chargers,” the largest such squadron in the whole of the US Navy. This particular unit is forward deployed at NAF Atsugi in Japan, and aboard the carrier USS George Washington. Meanwhile, the SH-60B kit depicts a craft from HSL-51 “Warlords” (a light antisubmarine squadron), which is also located at NAF Atsugi. HSL-51 helicopters regularly deploy aboard ships of the US Navy’s Seventh Fleet headquartered in Japan. The squadron’s SH-60B helicopters are fitted with the LAMPS Mk III (Light Airborne Multi-Purpose System). These two helicopters, distinguished by their impressive Cartograf markings, are ready to take to the air, and thanks to their superior engineering quality, they assemble with consummate ease.
