About the Sovremenny Class:
The first of eighteen Russian Sovremenny Class destroyers, with a displacement of 8480 tons, was completed in 1985. Only five of these Type 956 destroyers remain in Russian service, though the Chinese Navy (PLAN) also has several of them.

Each destroyer is armed with a mini-arsenal of 48 air-defense SA-N-7 Gadfly missiles, eight SS-N-22 Sunburn anti-ship missiles, torpedoes, long-range 130mm guns, four six-barrel 30mm AK-630 guns, mines, a Ka-27 helicopter, and a comprehensive electronic warfare system.
