Dragon Warbirds has created a new concept for its popular aircraft range. The new item features two related aircraft in a set, and the very first combo offers two US Air Force (USAF) aircraft – a KC-135E Stratotanker and a C-5C Galaxy. The C-5 Galaxy is one of the largest military aircraft in the world, and the USAF has operated it since 1969. Of 131 aircraft built, around 33 remain in active service. To better transport large-sized cargo, two aircraft were especially modified by removing the rear passenger compartment floor and splitting the rear cargo door in the middle. These so-called C-5C versions are able to accommodate odd-sized loads and they are located at Travis Air Force Base in California at the disposal of NASA. This Warbirds item is finished in the markings of the 22nd Airlift Squadron, part of the 60th Air Mobility Wing.

The second item is a KC-135E Stratotanker from the 108th Air Refueling Wing of the New Jersey Air National Guard (ANG). The KC-135E was a re-engined KC-135A powered by Pratt & Whitney TF-33-PW-102 engines, though all had been retired by September 2009 and replaced with the KC-135R. Interestingly, this Warbirds item carries bright tiger livery painted on the fuselage and tail for the aircraft’s participation in the famous ‘Tiger Meet’. In the past, the KC-135 series has been one of Warbirds’ most successful items, so this new combination gives collectors two hot models at an even better price.
